Why Understanding Odds Matters
Every price contains an implied probability. Decimal odds of 2.00 mean the sportsbook estimates roughly a 50% chance; odds of 1.50 mean about 67%. The formula is simple: probability = 1 ÷ decimal odds. When you believe the true chance of an outcome is higher than the implied probability, the bet is said to have "value".

Conversion formulas
- Hong Kong → Decimal: add 1. Example: 0.90 → 1.90.
- Decimal → Hong Kong: subtract 1. Example: 2.25 → 1.25.
- Hong Kong → Malay: if HK ≤ 1, Malay = HK. If HK > 1, Malay = −1 ÷ HK. Example: HK 1.25 → Malay −0.80.
- Negative Malay → Decimal: 1 + (1 ÷ |Malay|). Example: −0.80 → 2.25.
Negative Malay odds often confuse people. At −0.80, you risk RM80 to win RM100. If you lose, you only lose RM80 — not RM100.

Asian Handicap: A Complete Table of Every Line
The Asian Handicap gives the weaker team a virtual goal head start so both sides have a near-equal chance. The table below shows what happens to a bet on the favourite (−) depending on the actual winning margin. For the (+) side, the results are reversed.

A worked quarter-line example
You stake RM100 on the home team −0.75 at decimal odds of 1.90. The stake is split in two: RM50 on −0.5 and RM50 on −1.
- Home team wins 1–0: the RM50 on −0.5 wins → RM95. The RM50 on −1 is refunded → RM50. Total return RM145 (RM45 profit).
- Home team wins 2–0: both halves win → RM190 (RM90 profit).
- Draw or loss: both halves lose → RM100 lost.

Under bets work the other way round. Quarter lines are useful when you are confident about the direction of a match but want some protection if the result lands exactly on the line.

Sportsbook Margin and Finding Value
If you add up the implied probabilities of every outcome in a market, the total comes to more than 100%. The excess is the sportsbook margin (overround). For example, a handicap market priced 1.90 and 1.90: 52.6% + 52.6% = 105.2%, so the margin is about 5%. A market priced 1.95 and 1.95 carries only about a 2.6% margin — better for the player.
- Main markets (Asian Handicap, over/under) usually have lower margins than exotic markets such as correct score.
- Watch odds movement. A sharp drop often signals team news or big money arriving on one side.
- Value does not mean a sure win — it means the price is higher than the true chance over the long run.

What is the difference between Malay and Hong Kong odds?
For odds between 0 and 1 they are identical. When Hong Kong odds go above 1, Malay odds are written as a negative number (−1 ÷ HK), showing how much you must risk to win RM1.
What does a −0.25 handicap mean?
Your stake is split between the 0 and −0.5 lines. If your team wins, you win in full; if it is a draw, half your stake loses and the other half is refunded.
How do I calculate probability from odds?
Divide 1 by the decimal odds. For example, odds of 2.50 mean an implied probability of 40%.
Which odds format is best for beginners?
Decimal is the easiest because it shows the total return including your stake. Once comfortable, many Malaysian players switch to Malay odds for handicap markets.
Why do odds change before a match?
